Ron Morris devoted a recent column in “The State” (Yes, I’m disappointed to learn that it had nothing to do with the comedy troupe as well) to the issue of South Carolina’s flag, and how it costs the state money. Namely, because the NCAA will not schedule a tournament there.

It’s an interesting article, as it strips the issue of the chimeras of “heritage” or “racism” and boils it down to the purely economic effects of having a state flag that many people in the rest of the country find offensive.

Let’s look at some of the rational and reasoned responses to the article:

As for the flag, it is off the statehouse and hanging at a memorial. As soon as SC succumbs to the demands of this bigoted NAACP and removes the flag to the museum THEN they will begin the harassment of making us take the memorials down as well. I guess in its place will be yet another MLK statue, after of course the city is strongarmed into renaming Gervais MLK Blvd. Here is what I have to say. NAACP AND BLACK PEOPLE MOVE ON TO MORE IMPORTANT THINGS THAT WILLWILLWILLWILL ADVANCE YOUR PEOPLE…as in N__A__A__C__P and forgot about a danged flag that hangs on a memorial. Ron Morris, please hurry up and get your pink slip like so many papers are giving out these days. Funny how you leftwing nut jobs blame the papers decline on anything except the fact that you are all whacko hacks, non mainstream and write with agendas instead of JUST THE FACTS PLEASE.

It is displayed at a MEMORIAL for God’s sake. A tribute to the thousands of South Carolinians that died in that war. It is not a %$%#^# symbol for segments of society to get their panties in a wad. If the next “offensive” thing becomes the Bible are you going to relegate that to museums also?

This state has many problems but the flag is not the issue. Why concentrate on the flag??? Take that time and work on the teen pregnacy, the sorry education system, and the high crime rate. Everything is racism now days and I’m tired of hearing it. Racsim and discrimination is an excuse for not wanting to take responsibilty for your own actions. The flag is just an excuse for not dealing with real problems. The racist love to talk about the flag instead of looking in the mirror. You’re playing the same old song and no one listens anymore. I listen because I enjoy a good laugh from those who want to blame everyone else for their problems. If you don’t believe me, listen to Clyburn, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and that fine organization, the NAACP. It’s always the same old song and dance.

Flying the flag costs nothing ! The hateful reaction to it by others is what does. This reaction is just a part of the “affirmative action” adopted by a large part of the country, which has culminated in the election of a president whose great ambition is to destroy the country and rebuild it as a leftist paradise with total domination by the government. Of course any symbol of resistance to government is anathema to this mob. Well, the Confederates of South Carolina set an example of valor, determination and patriotism which we find very little of in these terrible times, and the last refuge of loyalty to the Founders’ original intent is the conservatives of the South. We only hate those who use their freedom to deprive others of theirs.

Three pages of comments before we get to some variation of “it’s President Obama’s fault.” Hey, maybe we can overcome!

I know people like you Ron…….You’d sell your soul for 30 peices of silver. You just don’t get it. You’re just like all the people lining up at the federal trough to get their daily ration of slop. Take your basketball and all your ncaa sanctioned crap and leave SC. I was born here and have lived here for over 60 years and plan to die here. Trust me, we’ll get by without you or your sports.

I can honestly say that this is the first time I’ve ever seen a sports columnist compared to Judas.

(I’ve seen Howard Cosell compared to Pilate, but that’s completely different.)

The NCAA is an arm of the NAACP. It is a politically correct group run by a bunch of liberals. Unfortunately, they run college athletics.

I hate basketball anyway and Ron Morris, your an idiot! You just love to stir up trouble don’t you? Please God…I hope to see him walk into the resturant where I work just so I can do unmentionable, vile things to his food!

All class, these people.

Thats just a lot of bunk! You better be more concerned about foreigners buying up those empty homes that the middle class has lost. Stop trying to stirrup junk between our citizens and find real stories to write about or get out of the business. It sounds like the NAACP’s agenda. They keep things stirred up because that is how they get paid.

ABE LINCOLN WAS THE FIRST WORSE PRESIDENT,HOOVER,LBJ,JIMMY CARTER RESPECTIVELY, OBAMA APPEARS TO BE NEXT. BUT WORSE, NOW I CAN’T GO TO ANY MORE BASKETBALL GAMES BECOUSE OF THAT FLAG. DANGIT!

next the NAACP will want to change the name of the sport to “AFRIKAN HANDBALL”……

Seriously? And you wonder why the rest of the world thinks South Carolina is a racist back-water…

OK, Let’s say I agree with Ron and the NCAA.

With that: Will the NCAA now refuse to allow events in states that permit THIRD-TERM ABORTIONS? Because I think any fair-minded American (a majority) agrees (especially if they know the process involved in a third-term abortion) that it is much more grotesque than a piece of cloth hanging on a pole.

And if I find third-term abortion offensive, based on moral reasons, why shouldn’t Ron and the NCAA promote my opinion for me and the majority of Americans who agree w/ me?

I love the “one-issue trolls” who pop up in threads like this.

Thank goodness I don’t rely on tourists for income. They treat us southerners as if we are so beneath them…..especially those from the northeastern states. I know, I spent a couple of years working at a motel off of I-95 in Florence. Snooty, talk down to the poor hillbilly redneck inbred trash type of libtards need to stay home. the funny thing was that if they had only asked I would have loved to discuss subatomic particle theory with any of them.

You know, part off this story doesn’t ring true to me, for some reason…

After attending last Sunday’s game between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Metro-Politans “mgardner” has a question-

On my way back to the seat from the restroom at the Phillies-Mets game today, I saw a couple donned in Mets apparel being harassed by Phillies faithful. Upon telling them to leave the Mets fans alone, they turned their anger towards me. (For the record, I was wearing a Phillies cap.) Fortunately, I was on my way back towards my seat so I did not have to endure their taunts for long. Apparently Phillies fans who stand up for Mets fans are no better than Mets fans themselves in the eyes of Philadelphia.

This is not, of course, the first time I have experienced such hostility coming from Philadelphia sports fans, but it got me wondering why they feel a necessity to be this way. Though I am (and have long been) a Phillies fan, I have a lot of respect for our biggest division rivals (as well as any other opposing team) and see no absolutely no problem with their fans showing their support. Why am I in the minority?

Fair enough. Now, does anyone have-

I don’t care what you think, I don’t want a NY chant in a stadium funded by OUR taxpayers for a team FUNDED by me and other fans. If you want to sit back and let them take over our stadium fine, but I will VERBALLY HARRASS THE HELL out of any Mets fans that come here. I do not want their experience to be nice and enjoyable. If I go to a game at Shea, I will not wear my teams colors and scream Phillies chants the whole time. Those chants were an ABSOLUTE INSULT TO OUR CITY!!

I will not make it Physical, but I will make it the least enjoyable experience and make them never want to come back to our stadium. If you defend them and allow them to embarrass us, you are fair game.

You will never hear a Yankees chant at a RedSox game and vice versa, if we want Met/Phillies to be the same level, we need to respect our stadium.

Thank you, ah, “Towelie,” now let’s see if we can-

Like I stated before, I do not condone violence. But my family and I have had season tickets for a long time and waited a long time for a good team and shouldn’t have to be embarrased like this. Where were all you “leave em alone” fans between 94-2002 huh? The true fans were down there cheering for the team even in the bad years, and I don’t need to hear “leave them alone” from some fairweather fans that only show up when the team is good. Same with the Eagles, I love how we used to rock the Vet even when the team was bad during the mid to late 90’s. Then all of a sudden the team gets good/raises prices by $50 a seat and then these fairweather fans have the nerve to call the die hard fans “animals?” Go back to the suburbs you fair weather fans.

Now, don’t other teams’ fans possibly have a right to be at the game, seeing as how they purchased tickets and-

They have a right to come, but when they don their colors and chant their teams chants on National TV, they are completely fair game to any and all insults. They can’t have their cake and eat it too.

Once again, I am not condoning violence at any level. Not even spitting or throwin Peanuts, but I do take issue when our stadium starts to become flooded with Blue and Orange. I find it well within my right and take pride in making it a rough experience for Mets fans to try and make Citizens Bank park their second stadium. If they take issue with my insults, they are well within their right to leave or say something witty back. I had a couple Mets fans on Friday night say you “Your right, we do suck after that collapse last year”. I found that to be pretty funny and left those guys alone the rest of the night. They weren’t screaming “Lets go Mets” either. That annoys me more than anything.

So, now you know- if you go to a Phillies game and you’re rooting for the opposing team, be sure to wear something neutral.

Thankfully, however, someone finally has a clear, direct and easy answer to the central question of why Philadelphia’s sports fans are so hostile-

They are a bunch of drunkin scumbags. You are in the minority because you are sober.
