A young man in Portland went to a late showing of Watchmen Sunday night and, about halfway through the film, committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. A horrible tragedy, one which will be treated with the utmost delicacy and respect by the readers at KTMR.com, of course.

So sad, now he will never know how the movie ends.

Oh, never mind. Let’s get this over with-

Fourth months into Obama’s administration and there are no more people who have died in mass murder-suicides than any other President within an 8 year period. You’ll be seeing a lot more stories like this.

Huh. This turned ugly quick. I feel bad for the kid. But really it was a crappy anti american, and anti religious movie. It tried very hard to be deep but in the end it seemed like endless complaining , with a hopelessness that really was unecessary. In my opinion of course. I like movies that promote strength instead of despair.

Generally, I’ve found that the people who didn’t like this movie weren’t smart enough to follow its storyline. (This statement is in no way a comment on the tragedy which is the subject of this news story.)

I didn’t think the movie Watchmen was that bad. Now if it had been a Michael Moore movie I could understand somebody shooting them self, just to end the pain of having to sit through the whole movie..

Midwest24, stories like Watchmen are cautionary tales. They detail possible negative societal developments in order that they they can be better understood and avoided. Throughout history, cautionary tales have played an important role, George Orwell’s “1984″ being a prime example.

I want to applaud this young man. FINALLY we hear about a psycopath who actually has a set. Here lately these nut cases seem to go in and kill a dozen people before they do what they actually came to do; kill themselves. At least this kid was not a coward. He reversed the order and killed himself first. If you want to take your own life I really could care less. But please do it before you consider taking any innocent life. I promise, I will blog and chat about what a hero you are.

Okay – is there anything that isn’t some horrible discussion/riff on the film’s quality or mocking the deceased?

KMTR, so, are you going to deliver or what? you guys are coming off real semi-pro leaving this blurb out there for 9 hours instead sniffing around for the story behind the story to offer some form of UPDATE. just real semi-pro.

Monday night, a group of fans gathered in Austin, Texas for a showing of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, with a supposed ten-minute preview of J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek film and a brief discussion with the writers. What they got instead was a surprise appearance by Leonard Nimoy and a screening of the entire film, in advance of its “World Premiere” Tuesday night in Australia.

A fun night for a group of dedicated fans, and preliminary impressions over at TrekMovie.com are that a good time was had by all. In fact, the vast majority of responses over there are of the “Oh, you lucky bastards” sort, which is understandable. But, these are, at their hearts, nerds commenting anonymously on the internet, so by sheer mathematics, some will be unhappy. The added factor of Star Trek makes whatever graphing curve doodad you’d use to track this approach zero with its certainty. (That’s a math thing, right? I work in media relations, so I never have to do numbers work.)

Some are skeptical at the positive reviews, including one Mr. (I assume) “Harry Ballz”-

“after the event, the audience reaction was positive”

A crowd who loves Star Trek comes out to watch TWOK and, being treated to the world premiere of the new movie, the general reaction is “positive”? That’s it? After all this waiting and speculation, this is the initial review?

When Nimoy asked, “wouldn’t you rather see the new movie?”, the “crowd went wild”!!!

If you told me the crowd went wild AFTER seeing the movie, that would be good. To hear that the crowd feedback after seeing the movie was “positive”…..how underwhelming!!

All that freshness the reviewers are so happy about… did that really need a mirror universe reboot prequel? Why couldn’t they get that freshness with most beautiful visuals and fast pace and action and fun and stuff… why couldn’t they do this in a proper sequel?

And I strongly believe a TNG era movie with that budget and vision would have rocked the house just as strong, or even stronger.

And the sets could have been extra-beige with that money!

I have a question for someone who has seen the film: what is the chemistry like between Pine and Quinto?

Ron Morris devoted a recent column in “The State” (Yes, I’m disappointed to learn that it had nothing to do with the comedy troupe as well) to the issue of South Carolina’s flag, and how it costs the state money. Namely, because the NCAA will not schedule a tournament there.

It’s an interesting article, as it strips the issue of the chimeras of “heritage” or “racism” and boils it down to the purely economic effects of having a state flag that many people in the rest of the country find offensive.

Let’s look at some of the rational and reasoned responses to the article:

As for the flag, it is off the statehouse and hanging at a memorial. As soon as SC succumbs to the demands of this bigoted NAACP and removes the flag to the museum THEN they will begin the harassment of making us take the memorials down as well. I guess in its place will be yet another MLK statue, after of course the city is strongarmed into renaming Gervais MLK Blvd. Here is what I have to say. NAACP AND BLACK PEOPLE MOVE ON TO MORE IMPORTANT THINGS THAT WILLWILLWILLWILL ADVANCE YOUR PEOPLE…as in N__A__A__C__P and forgot about a danged flag that hangs on a memorial. Ron Morris, please hurry up and get your pink slip like so many papers are giving out these days. Flying the flag costs nothing ! The hateful reaction to it by others is what does. This reaction is just a part of the “affirmative action” adopted by a large part of the country, which has culminated in the election of a president whose great ambition is to destroy the country and rebuild it as a leftist paradise with total domination by the government. Of course any symbol of resistance to government is anathema to this mob. Well, the Confederates of South Carolina set an example of valor, determination and patriotism which we find very little of in these terrible times, and the last refuge of loyalty to the Founders’ original intent is the conservatives of the South. We only hate those who use their freedom to deprive others of theirs.

Three pages of comments before we get to some variation of “it’s President Obama’s fault.” Hey, maybe we can overcome!

With that: Will the NCAA now refuse to allow events in states that permit THIRD-TERM ABORTIONS? And if I find third-term abortion offensive, based on moral reasons, why shouldn’t Ron and the NCAA promote my opinion for me and the majority of Americans who agree w/ me?

It was fairly significant entertainment industry news when a work-print of the upcoming Wolverine film was leaked onto internet torrent sites. The long-term fallout of the leak is still unknown, but for FOX News journalist Roger Friedman, one thing is very clear: reviewing a bootleg copy of a film months before its scheduled release is a one-way ticket to unemployment.

Pretty straight-forward scenario, right? Well, not according to Screen Rant reader “c”, who finds fault with those un-American jerks at…Fox?

well I think this should open up a can of worms for hollywood and monster companies like Fox…

1) they are stealing from the American public. They go to foreign soil(most films are now made in Australia, New Zealand, Vancouver,BC). But they come to USA and charge ungodly box office prices in which we as americans have to pay tax on… why shouldn’t they have to pay import tax on movies and other things an ungodly tax to them and to the actors who work for them…

2) give them a tax break if they film 100% of the movie in local town USA, etc…

If they would support america as americans then maybe they would have more supports/sympathy for matters like these. but for me, i think just like the mp3 is to the music industry, avi is to foriegn hollywood… I lost respect for my favorite actor Nicolas Cage for his making the movie KNowing in land down under portraying NYC… f…ing sux…

It was big news, as it always seem to be, when the Iowa Supreme Court quite sensibly declared that the state’s ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional.

I’m sure you know where we’re going with the rest of this post:

How many judges agreed in the unanimous opinion?

Uhm…all of them?

Where are they polygamists, polyandrists etc, isn’t banning that then also unconstitutional? The ones who should be celebrating are the divorce lawyers. I suggest that heterosexual marriages get fixed before rushing into handling unconventional/alternative marriages.

Yes, that’s right, equal rights for gays is just part of a sinister plot by divorce attorneys to get rich.

God has nothing to do with this.

This is a sad day. Hopefully the people of Iowa will take back their state from the vermin in black robes who think the traditional family is obsolete. The legislators in Iowa need to remove those justices who found that homosexual marriage is equivalent to heterosexual marriage. It is not, and never has been, and never will be.

Homosexual marriage is also a threat to the traditional family. It makes a mockery of the institution, which has been the bedrock of all civilization since the beginning of time. It is a sure sign of America’s decadence that gay marriage is being legalized by unelected judges.

What a lousy ruling. By the logic of the Iowa supreme court, equal protection must mean that men and women are interchangeable. By that logic, any law that has a gender specific provision (such as maternity leave) is a violation of equal protection.

Well, yes. Which is why most responsible businesses and states allow men to take “paternity” leave.

There are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God’s plan for marriage and family. Marriage is holy, while homosexual acts go against the natural moral law. Homosexual acts close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity.

If you think that, you’re doing it wrong, honey.

Please explain where in the constitution it deals with gay marriage. This was not a problem then and as such was not mentioned in the document. some judges are making thier own interpatation of the constitution. They should read it as written.

All great societies destroy themselves. America is hedonistic and self centered without concern for the real problems this country faces. Sounds like the fall of Rome.

Yes, it is your choice but it goes against our Creator and even crosses the laws of nature.

Just another activist court legislating from the bench. Where are the strict contructionists when you need them? Am I the only one still fuming about Brown v. Board of Education?

I am sickened by the positive response to this (but I guess I didn’t expect anything other than that). We have taken a holy union created by God and smeared it in the dirt by allowing this. They ought to know that Homosexual marriage is not about the discrimination or hatred to homosexual, but it is stopping the moral dilemma. Those who support homosexual are also supporting promiscuous sexual activity and free love. When the train of our moral rights will be stop falling? How long do we have to wait to see us in Soddom and Gomorrah.During the baby boomers, it was okay to have intercourse with those who you love,today it is okay to have love with same sex.What our next generation will fall into? Polygomy? If our generation supports this kind act, the next generation will be is far worser shape. I do not hate homosexuals, infect I believe they are very good and cordial people. However, people are good & evil and no one knows what will happen when our morality as culture is free falling, which is evil. Those judges are people who only look at one side of opinion and do not look at the other (such as the case in the abortion). In today’s Philadelphia Daily News (The People Paper!), columnist Stu “Byko” Bykofsky takes partial credit for a recent initiative by Mayor Michael Nutter to reward straight-A perfect attendance students with seats in the mayor’s box for this season’s Phillies games.

His headline? With Byko-inspired plan, ‘nerds’ are now envied VIPs.

Anyhow, it’s a worthwhile plan and a good idea. Though Bykofsky’s insistence at still calling these kids nerds is a little odd, good for him for putting this out there and for the city for implementing it. I mean, rewarding kids who are doing well is a good thing, right? Well, we’ll see- let’s go to the Philly.com comments. Mr. Squirrelpants? You’re up first-

why are we rewarding kids for being nerds? maybe we can start paying them to sit in their mom’s basements playing videogames, too.

It is a bad idea to reward someone for doing what they are supposed to be doing in the first place. Whatb this does is teach people to look for more handouts as they get older.

what about students in catholic/private high schools? they’re parents are paying taxes too (probably more than public high school parents). meanwhile, their schools SAVE tax dollars – why aren’t they being awarded for their academic achievements? not to mention the fact that they’re saving the city money, unlike the public school students.

This is a joke. Yeah, way to be racist and prejudiced! Every “bottom dwelling” high schooler is a problem child ON PURPOSE. Right. Many of these kids are in trouble for a reason. Bad parents. Bad influences. poor neighborhoods. yeah, let’s ignore them, and only help those who don’t need help. Way to go Stu you should be so proud. Perfect attendance? Give me a break. Attendance means SQUAT. Half the courses at schools are a waste. And the BRAINY kids that LOVE school don’t need more handouts. This is pathetic.

Great idea to reward high achievers. It’s pretty stupid to reward perfect attendance, though – it means the kid probably came to school when he was at a high risk of transmitting an illness at some point. If too many kids get straight A’s, the reward should go to the upperclassmen. It would certainly be better to give all 600 varsity letters though.

Take, for example, this story from ynet news in Israel, about a gay couple who, after fostering a child thrown out by his family for being gay, were finally, after fourteen years of court petitions, allowed to adopt the boy, now a grown man.

Touching, heartwarming story, right?

homosexuals are the product of failing cultures. go against nature, and nature will go against you. now reap what you sow.

The blatant disregard for the instruction from G-d made public only shames good observant Jews and brings about condemnation from G-d for such an open violation of Torah. I am not advocating discipline or old Temple justice, but a recognition of this evil for what it is and a censure of such an openly public view. Please consider during this celebration of Purim, that G-d saved us to live as prescribed, not to violate the basic standards of Judaism. I celebrate the salvation of Judaism and you report the destruction of it.

the fact that this has come up requires an answer

Recently, Politico writer Ben Smith posted about the efforts of freshman Congressperson Bill Posey (R-FL) to amend the Federal Election Campaign act so that all candidates for President must provide a birth certificate in order to run. I have absolutely no idea what kind of point Posey is trying to make, but then again, I don’t have trouble understanding the difference between a “birth certificate” and a “certification of live birth.”

Let’s see how Posey’s intended audience reacted to Smith’s post:

You must care enough to intercede to stop this. Is this not within your power to do so? Why have you not acted already? What is it that you are waiting for? Scott Easterling who, in my opinion, is an absolutely courageous young Army Officer. Irrespective of your personal opinion of his actions, one thing is abundantly clear; the horrible, hateful and demeaning things that were being said about him and one to the other among my Brothers and Sisters in Arms were things that I have NEVER experienced in ALL my years of military service. It is no less than gut retching to see this happening. The wounds that are being inflicted will NOT be healed by any Medicine I have at my disposal. There is nothing I learned in Medical School or in my training as a Flight Surgeon that can fix this; save the absolute power of Truth. The POTUS must stop concealing the documents once and for all and the issue of his qualifications must be addressed. Make no mistake; any adverse consequences to the troops as a result of your failure to act responsibly will be in large part directly on your head. Have you considered the legal ramifications for our fighting forces if for any reason the POTUS is not qualified. Are they in Iraq illegally? If so, does this make them terrorists under International law as the Islamic radical elements have been calling them? Have they given up their Geneva protections and do not even know this? If so, when captured can they be killed or tortured without International legal ramifications? Have they been stripped of the legal protections by the Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief act? Are you willing to allow this risk to them when they are fighting for us? Once again I find myself at a loss of words to try to explain the abject and total dismay I have at the administration, to include the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, to allow the painful division now occurring in our military to proceed unabated. I hope that I do not need to remind you that you as well took an Oath to support and defend the Constitution. As a point of honor you are either willing to do this or you are not. If you are not, then preserve your honor, resign and let someone who cares more about us than that do what is right. I again respectfully implore you to act within your powers and help us. It is absolutely true and is my Prayer to my Creator to allow me to suffer the slings and arrows of being thought a fool rather than to have my convictions realized that persons of responsibility have allowed through negligence to have the Office of the President of the United States to be USURPED; it is self evident however, that whatever the outcome we must know the truth. Oh, American Idol. You give us so much. Well, mostly what you give us is the notion that being really good at karaoke is all you need to land a recording contract, but you also give us crazy fans like no other reality show can even dream of doing.

And when Entertainment Weekly looked at the possibility that the next Idol might be a man of ambiguous sexuality, oh, how your fans delievered:

Why does everything have to be labeled as straight or gay? That is the biggest problem. So many things have “I’m gay” written all over everything, but there aren’t labels stating “I’m straight”. God bless American Idol for keeping neutral ground.

I would stop watching it with my kids.I am just a mother with worries of this issue and dont think my kids need more exposure then they already get in the schools and now even on a family show. I think he should just keep it to himself and keep his personal life off TV..

If you define a family as a mother, a father, and one or more kids (as do most humans), as opposed to whomever wants to move in together and have sex, then OF COURSE homosexuality is anti-family. Don’t get me wrong, if two guys or girls want to get together and make like bunnies, more power to them. However, lets not make the mistake of calling them a family.

I would object to heterosexuals behaving in this manner and I am not a far right as one of the comments suggested. If someone is gay, so what. Behave with your lover as others do. It is not necessary to perform public sexual oriented acts as Adam did in the pics. Actually, he may not be gay, but a deviate, and I consider that a threat to any culture. What is next – showing off their toilet habits???

Good people should have children if possible. Straight people who can’t conceive should be repaired, if possible…if not then agree to adopt a child into a normal family before Pelosi can abort it. “Octomom” should be shunned and ridiculed too. People who choose not to have children are just being selfish as long as they can afford to provide for the ensuing kidlets both emotionally and financially. To deny a base instinct that exists across all forms of life is not normal. That’s why any gay lifestyle justification vote can’t even pass a simple majority vote in any jurisdiction.

Homosexuality brings nothing positive to society. What it does bring is suicide, depression, disease, identity crises, confusion and a whole lot of unnecessary conflict.

Homosexual relationships are different from heterosexual ones for obvious reasons. Homosexuals should not try to claim that their relationships are the same as heterosexual ones. Nor should homosexuals try to rob the heterosexual community of distinctly heterosexual concepts such as marriage and family.

Homosexuals can do nothing but imitate the heterosexual model, because the heterosexual model has existed from the beginning (a society based on homosexuality can’t survive).

Instead of imitating heterosexuals and perverting heterosexuals’ most treasured institutions, homosexuals should invent their own institutions. But they should do so somewhere where the rest of us won’t have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

Or else they should substitute their harmful behavior with behavior helpful to society.

I would stop watching immediately! The line has to be drawn somewhere. There is no difference between homosexuality and bestiality. I will not have my children in an environment where they are brought up to think homosexuality is normal any more than I would tell them it is ok to marry their uncle when they reach the age of 12. I am agnostic btw. Homosexuality is a sickness like depression or bipolar disorder and should be treated as such.

In Philadelphia this week, a woman’s purse was stolen. Two Boston salesmen making a call at a nearby hair salon thought a moment, then gave chase. A couple of blocks down, a guy saw the thief run past, called 911 and joined the chase. The thief dropped the purse, the victim got her purse back, people’s faith in humanity and strangers in general was renewed. A nice, feel-good story, right? Let’s go to the Philly.com comments!
