If there’s one trend in crafting that annoys me, it is the hipsterization of handmade items. Slap a pirate, ninja, or zombie on a handmade item and try to sell it. Bonus points for incredibly high-priced items! Everybody’s doing it!

Anchors aweigh. Anchors aweigh, dammit.
Hmmm. Are robots next? do they count? God help us for when they catch on to chimps and monkeys.
Well I have to say that the great majority of these made me want to retch. Then, they made me laugh, which is a good thing…I suppose.
Wow and I had the nerve to post that there wasn’t an Etsy category. Way to make me a liar guys. =P I’ll just insist this was done to spite me and ruin my (non-existing) website reputation. I swear it wasn’t there yesterday!
(P.S. seriously check the forums!)
Seriously?
I usually love GOTI, but I don’t get what’s wrong with handmade hipster goods? Is it better if all the hipsters just shop at same five stores as everyone else?
It’s not exactly a new trend, is it? Every generation seems to have a moment when DIY and handmade goods become popular. The hippies did it. The punks did it. The zine culture did it. The alternative culture did it very briefly. This is just the latest iteration of the idea.
What’s so offensive about this?
No, the REAL squick is when Big Business gets ahold of the trend 8 months too late. I already lived through the Depp Pirate merchandise, I don’t wanna see the Ninja Pirate Zombie crapvalanche coming to WalMart.
What’s so offensive about this?
Nothing is offensive, but sometimes the ridiculous and hilarious need to be pointed out as well.
