I honestly cannot tell if this is meant to be serious or not

Yes it’s true that most eleven year-olds probably aren’t knowledgeable enough to make a well-informed choice about political candidates, but the evidence overwhelmingly indicates that most fifty year-olds aren’t very well-informed either. And yet, everyone gets to vote (and, of course, many people choose not to). Everyone, that is, except for that would-be eleven year-old voter.

An eleven year old cannot drive, drink, join the army, give blood, enter into a contract, have sex (in most states), get married (in most states) or work a forty hour a week job. But you want to let them vote?

I agree. I was almost arrested for voting fraud in my wayward youth when I tried to vote for Clinton at age 15. My own mother turned me in when she went to vote and saw my name on the list of eligible voters.

Yeah. Sure you did.

I can’t believe some of the stuff I’m reading. It’s a democratic right to vote, and lame arguments about how it won’t lead to the policies you want, or the average kid may be open to outside influences, do not override that. Everyone’s open to outside influences, and lots of voters are dumb and irrational. It’s simply much worse to NOT let some people vote (and their desires will be ignored) than it is to let some irrational people vote.

I think we should give computers the vote. But only Macs.

Oh, Lord, spare me the egos of Mac users…

The Pill Kills asks you to celebrate “Protest the Pill Day”.

June 7 marks the 43rd anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision Griswold v. Connecticut. This was the first of many decisions that led to the culture of death we live in today.

On that day in 1965, when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on the Griswold v. Connecticut case, it set a legal precedent for claiming that the Constitution grants women the right to privacy in matters of sexual practice. This meant that Connecticut and the rest of the United States could not stop a married woman from obtaining birth control pills. However, as Judge Andrew Napolitano has pointed out, the constitutional right to privacy has nothing to do with birth control.

The plaintiff was Estelle Griswold, then executive director of the Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut. She and Dr. C. Lee Buxton opened a birth control clinic. They were arrested and fined for selling birth control pills, which was illegal in Connecticut. The case was pushed all the way to the Supreme Court. In other words, Planned Parenthood was breaking the law; yet it turned this case into a legal precedent for selling contraception. Because of the Griswold case and others that followed, unmarried women and teenagers were later permitted to obtain birth control pills.

The esteemed livejournaller boxy_brown calls for an end to religious oppression:

The African-American community keeps saying that electing Obama would be a great step toward racial equality in America. The feminists say that electing Clinton would advance women’s rights. Perhaps if America ever elects a Christian President, he’ll finally be able to end the brutal oppression of Christians in this country.

Stuff White People Like is a site premised upon taking the hoary “white people go like this/black people go like that” routine and cutting out the “black people” part. After reading several of the site’s posts, I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something off about the entire venture, which seemed to be a series of snarky jabs against facile targets, passed under the guise of self-effacement or as simply “telling it like it is.” (Never a good sign, that.)

Also telling is the site’s choice of subjects to mock, “straw liberal” clichés like San Francisco, having gay friends, and the Toyota Prius. Oddly enough, given the site’s name, there are no entries for Ayn Rand, Larry the Cable Guy, or NASCAR, despite their well-documented appeal to the melanin-challenged sector of our society. Funny, that.

Then again, I thought perhaps I was reading too much into things…until this post, #94 Free Healthcare, which is the equivalent to that dreaded point in a conversation when you realize that you’ve spent the last hour talking to a Ron Paul supporter and start formulating a rapid exit strategy.

It begins thusly…

In spite of having access to the best health insurance and fanciest hospitals, white people are passionate about the idea of socialized medicine. So much so that they have memorized statistics and examples of how for-profit medicine has destroyed the United States.

If by “access,” you mean “it’s out there, though beyond the financial reach of many people, including those who work full time,” then the opening statement is almost correct. You know what else is correct? If you’re trapped in a tunnel with a vending machine full of Dasani, you will die of thirst if you don’t have change to put in the damn thing.

So why do white people like free healthcare?

Firstly, because they’re a bunch of feckless Europhiles:

The first and most obvious reason is “they have it Europe.” White people love all things European, this especially true of things that are unavailable in the United States (Rare Beers, Absinthe, legal marijuana, prostitution, soccer).

…and secondly, because these supposed “white people” (who bear no resemblance to any ones I’ve encountered in real life) are a bunch of bohemian slackers:

But the secret reason why all white people love socialized medicine is that they all love the idea of receiving health care without having a full-time job. This would allow them to work as a freelance designer/consultant/copywriter/photographer/blogger, open their own bookstore, stay at home with their kids, or be a part of an Internet start-up without having to worry about a benefits package.

The Europeans, lazy bohemians… that’s two conservative shibboleths invoked, all we’re missing is Michael Moore:

These desires were only heightened in 2007 when Michael Moore released “Sicko,” a documentary that contrasts the health care industry in the United States with that of Canada, France and Cuba. As a general rule of thumb, white people are always extra passionate about issues that have been the subject of a Moore documentary. As a test, ask them about 9/11, Gun Control, or Health Care and then say “where did you get that information?” You will not be surprised at the results.

YES, WE HAVE A RIGHT-WING TALKING POINT HAT TRICK! WOOOO! Because when you’re a uninsured college student or low wage worker with a painful and potentially deadly intestinal obstruction, it’s not about a hard choice where well-being has to be weighed against a possibly crushing financial burden. It’s all about being a slacker Scandophile fan of Roger and Me and ignoring the fact that the streets in this blessed nation are simply paved with affordable health care plans.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be complete without a jab at typical straw liberal “white people” hypocrisy:

They love the idea of everyone have equal access to the resources that will keep them alive, that is until they have to wait in line for an MRI.

Ah, yes, projecting one’s sense of crapulence onto others, that’s certainly something white people like.

Oh, did I say “white people?” I meant “over-entitled douchebags.”

If you’re interested in the upcoming presidential election, CNN.com is as good a place as any to visit. If you’re interested in filling yourself with despair at the state of the American electorate, CNN.com is an awesome place to visit.

CNN’s political ticker, where they track the ebb and flow of this seemingly endless campaign, offers readers the opportunity to leave comments about each piece. The comments are usually more entertaining than the actual articles – if you find idiocy, poorly informed opinions, and bigotry entertaining, that is.

Let’s take a look at the following article on the Political Ticker, dated April 3rd:

GROWING NUMBER SAY COUNTRY READY FOR BLACK PRESIDENT

Reader Bon gives us a global perspective on why black people are unfit to lead:

Show me a country run by a black president and I’ll show you a place plagued by corruption, violence and general mismanagement.

Absolutely, But Not Obama is confused:

hey what happened to my comment?

We’re reading it, dumbass.

Meanwhile, Vig thinks the whole thing smells fishy and is willing to get all Dirty Harry on your ass:

Well, here’s another Obama favoritism - did they poll people to see if they are ready for a woman president? Well, did you punk?

Actually, Vig, if you had bothered to read the article you might have noticed this passage:The poll also suggested more Americans think the country is ready for a black president than a female president. Sixty-three percent of those surveyed say the country is ready for a female president, 13 points lower than those who say the country is ready for a black president.

Big K gets a dig in at all the descendents of slaves who might happen to be reading:

If Obama loses the election, will he ask for reparation? I’ll stick with Senator John.

Debra is just as pissed as Vig, but not nearly as tough. She’s just upset that there wasn’t a reseach:

Why no Research about gender? How many Americans are ready for a female President? I guess that the porcentage might be lower, but it dosn´t matter. There should have been a reseach!

Actually, Debra, if you had bothered to read… ah, skip it.Robert, IL (typical white male) is ready for a black president! Because…

Anything is better than a lying white woman.

Spoken like a true redneck divorcee.Bill from Covington has confused the headline of the article with the poll itself:

’Growing number say country is ready for a black president’ I notice they say “country” why not name the country. If you ask is the United States of America ready for a black president, what would be the answer? Quit playing games with polls, we all realize how easily they can be manipulated.

Yes, you horrible headline writers! Quit playing games with polls that you have nothing to do with!

Dallas thinks the entire thing is MISLEADING!

Very MISLEADING Is there a poll asking if the country is ready for a female president, to be fair?”

Actually Dallas, if you had bothered to read…

Will is another “typical white person” with an opinion:

I don’t think so. I am a typical white person, and I will not vote for that black racist, along with probably 70% of typical white people will not vote for Obama. Chew on that.”

Well, now that we’ve heard from the official Ambassador of Typical White People, let’s end things with some wisdom from Jimmy, who brings a certain pop cultural wisdom to the world of politics:

But we are not ready for a woman president. Look at that commander and chief show with Geena Davis - cancelled. On the other hand there have already been 2 black presidents on 24. Co-incidence? I think not. Hillary is fighting an uphill battle. May be in 4 years.

America is totally doomed.

USA Today, America’s tabloid, reports on an interview with one-time Abu Ghraib guard Lyndie England which was run in the German magazine Stern. England doesn’t appear to show much regret over her actions and in fact seems to find that the problem with Abu Ghraib wasn’t so much that American soldiers were torturing people, but that the media had the audacity to report on it.

Sadly, it seems many of her country people feel the same way…

The cowardly media responsible for this yellow journalism will never take any responsibility. I await a story on 20/20 or 48 hours or 60 minutes to determine why this stupidity was leaked irresponsibly. They should be convicted for murder.

The Abu Ghraib photos that I saw looked no different than the photos that would have been taken at any one of hundreds of US colleges on fraternity initiation Hell nights. It is completely absurd that there was any kind of response to this at all. It was purely a case of opportunistic traitorous Liberal Anarchist carping.

Abu Ghraib was just a bunch of opportunistic Liberal Anarchist carping over nothing. If you got arrested on a traffic violation in this country you’d get treated a lot rougher than the Abu Ghraib prisoners did. JUst a lot of carping and wailing by Liberal Anarchists who hate this country, and who want to tear it down every chance they can get. You Liberal Anarchists are a bunch of traitors. We should deal with you people the way we would have a hundred years ago. Tar and feather you and ride you out of town on a rail.

Wake up, America

by Ted Grant

A Christian fundamentalist photographer falls afoul of New Mexico’s anti-discrimination law.

Free Republic commentators respond:

The ‘gay rights’ movement is as big if not a bigger threat to America and Americans than the abortion movement.

I have often made the claim that the fabled “lunch counter sit-ins” from the 1950’s which helped push forward the Civil Rights struggle were a bad precedent.

Yes, but once we went down the road of proptecting minorities, then the further road of adding “sexual preference” to the minorities list, this becomes the equivalent of saying “we don’t serve blacks”.

That is how the left is destroying our culture.

Faggot fascism on the march.

This is why a legislator in Kansas recently called homosexual agenda “alqueera”! They sure act like it (a lot more than the Christians they accuse of doing so).

Another example of unequal protection due to anti-discrimination laws. A hetero couple has no recourse to sue this photographer for refusing to photograph their event, but a gay couple can. Looking for someone to punch, I’m best to choose the straight guy because I get more time for hitting the gay guy.

The lesbos are suffering from Christophobia.

The law permits people to discriminate against Republicans in lodging and employment. It even didn’t permit additional charges when there was violence and vandalism targeted at families because they were Republican.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com and the filthy disease ridden queers win again…

Barack Obama is coming to Indianapolis today to do the usual pulpit-slapping and dramatic pausing that has made him a leader to so many Democrats. Of course, not everyone is very impressed by this, including one gentleman who wants to refer to himself as “The fireman”

I don’t understand how the American people can elect a man of Islamic descent. All the trouble we are having is due to the Islamic people and we (some people) are trying to get one of the elected as president. His name should have caused lights to go off Barack Husain Obama, what American heritage is that. Was he named after Sadam Husain? It don’t make since to me how this can be happening to our wonderful country. Just like immagration and all the illegals here flying the flag of Mexico in their yard and on the vehicles. It should be against the law. Theodore Roosevelt in 1907 said “There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who is an AMERICAN, but something else also, isn’t an AMERICAN at all. We have room for but one flag, the AMERICAN flag…We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language…And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the AMERICAN people.”
We need to get back to this way of thinking and stop being afraid of stepping on someones toes. This is our country, we should fight to keep it ours.

Apparently the cognitive dissonance between the spelling here and the Teddy Roosevelt quote is invisible to the St. Louis resident.

From a dubiously sourced article in the Daily News comes the revelation that Americans are amongst the most undersexed people in the world. Only 53% of Americans have sex once a week. Which means Americans are getting laid more often than the Japanese, but are lagging far behind Greece and Brazil in the global nookie race.

Let’s sample some responses, shall we?

I’d like to see how the numbers look after you take out “sex with sheep and cats”.

Its bad because the women here suck!!! They’re all haggered as if they’ve all “been there, done that”. I don’t even want to touch them because its like wearing someone else’s underwear. They get used because they let their guard down for chumps, but when decent dudes come along, they’re like, “don’t talk to me”. Then they wonder why getting good Men is such a task……..in other countries the women are apparently more intelligent.

Sex who care as long as a female can open her mouth I’m good. Keep em on their knees and you will never have to hear them talk to you during the football game or basket ball game… A cold one in one hand and the remote in the other hand and a female that can suck you into the sky…

You have to look for your women in a fast food McDonalds or similiar. The fast food draws the really fat ones who are willing to have sex with anyone, don’t forgrt to bring a paper bag!

Think Israel.

by Tom Thumb

So by now you’re all aware — right? — that 2007 Best Actress Oscar winner Marion Cotillard apparently said some things awhile back that indicate she A) believes the WTC attacks were orchestrated by the building owners and B) isn’t all that sure about this moon landing business, either. Still with me? Good.

Okay, so Times Online correspondent Charlie Bremner broached the subject on his blog last week, and it turns out his readers hold strong, considered opinions both for and against Ms. Cotillard and her worldview… that is, when they aren’t misinterpreting her as saying 9/11 never happened, as Gail Johnson seemingly did:

Another relative of mine SAW the planes hit the towers. It was the full jet fuel and where they hit the towers that caused the “implosion”. But I’m sure she feels that the Hollicoust didn’t happen too!

Lisa offers a morsel of welcome perspective…

So she made these comments a year ago before anyone had ever really heard of her? Ms. Cotillard is perfectly entitled to think and believe what she likes - as a great many are doing even in America. This “siutation” is being blown all out of proportion.

… which in a just and caring universe would shut the thread right down. But this is the Internet, where the laser-like focus of debaters such as Little Big Horn holds sway:

(I’ve even been heard that a consequential amount of people nowadays believe that the Universe has been created 7000 years ago in 6 days by a Super Daddy praising capitalism, that His Son Jesus saved humanity (even non-monotheist vegetarians) from all sins, that real life/world was indeed after death, and not on the web and, please believe me… that the Pope’s chasuble is cleaned with a special new synthesis powder that makes water totally useless. It’s an acquaintance’s Swiss friend, banker in Vatican, who told me. No article about that?)

One anonymous metallurgist/construction expert/grammarian leaps to Ms. Cotillard’s defense:

In the history of Construction & Engineering, no steel structure or building has EVER collapsed because of fire. WTC buillding collapsed, bur fire was not the cause.

If that doesn’t convince you, heed the words of no less an Authority than Yah Weh, whom you’d think ought to have the last word on the subject:

If you think some `errorist` guys from a cave on the other side of the world had all of that happen, there is something wrong with you….US Neo-Cons (Fas..) absolutely utterly complicit in these events. Think Israel. If you think this is outside the bounds of reality, you clearly do not know much of modern history, particularly US Military history. Enjoy your awakening.

Naturally, many more comments follow, including poetry and… I guess you’d call it philosophy?
