In the world of grown ups, there are many things you will find are not to your taste. Because you’re busy with a job and family and life, “not liking something” is pretty good motivation to discard it and move on. You certainly wouldn’t hang around the internet looking for articles and announcements about the thing you don’t like in order to harangue it for no appreciable gain… right?

Well, do you own a console?

Such is the case with Fable II, the immersive 2008 RPG that boasted a heavy emphasis on storytelling and far-reaching consequences for the player’s actions. One friend cannily pointed out that Fable II is something like a cross between The Sims and The Legend of Zelda. Just so.

The makers of Fable II have announced the second downloadable content (DLC) pack for the extremely reasonable price of about $5. You would think this would be a point of interest for fans and something to ignore for everyone else… and yet.

I downloaded the first DLC, but I haven’t played it. I’m relishing life spent outside of the Peter Molyneux hype machine of ridiculously inflated expectations.

I too have bought the DLC and have not played it. I have a lot of other games to play. Ones where they don’t hold my hand the whole way through.

At first glance this doesn’t make any damn sense: two morons acting like they got one over on a game studio by purchasing the product and then not playing it. But you need to understand something about the entitlement mindset of gamers.

To a gamer, it is inconceivable that they not own anything that rouses their interest even a little; any product that so much as flashes its ankle at them must be owned, even if it is not enjoyed or (in this case) even played. Gamers, rather than exert some iota of self-control by being wiser with their money and time, then reflexively rail against their masters in some limp attempt at regaining some control of their lives. Lucky for us, the Internet has enabled them to do all this in public.

Let’s check out this gamer’s dilemma.

I bought the DLC and started to play it, then my girlfriend took the controller for a killing spree on Knothole Island and manage to “break” the expansion.
Do I download the new one and get rid of the girlfriend or ignore it?

The advice comes in fast and furious:

The girlfriend a real gamer? If so keep her. But if she is a Wii generation gamer I’d move along. You don’t want one of them trying to tell you how to play a game.

That bit of sage wisdom comes from “DravenX23,” the same guy who stated above that he didn’t like it when games (or, presumably, live human women) “hold his hand.” Not content with that bit of overblown pomposity, DravenX23 further discusses what to him is “real” gaming.

What does Rock Band have to do with gaming? I’m talking actual games. Not the casual stuff.

But good glad she has gone back to the classics. best way to go to get her to understand the difference between old school and new school.

If she can beat Mega Man then you sir have found a great gamer wife.

Someone quite rightly responds that there’s very little that’s “casual” about much of Rock Band‘s following, but ah, that way lies fallacy, says Draven.

Just because it has a hardcore fanbase doesn’t mean much. Twilight and High School Musical have tons of fans that would do anything for that stuff. Doesn’t mean its more then it is.

Rhythm games are by nature casual games. Nothing wrong with what it is. But in the end its just people hitting the buttons they see on the screen.

Unlike other games, of course, which are more mature because you have to memorize the buttons first.

Further down-thread, a Fable II fan reminds everyone that the point of the game is not the “challenge” (which would be that button-mashing bit Draven was talking about, only don’t confuse that with the wrong kind of button-mashing) but rather experiencing a good story that you yourself have a large hand in creating. Draven, predictably, misses the point.

So to make it a ‘Real Game’ I have to play it naked and with a wooden sword? Sure there are lots of ways to make the game more challenging. But I didn’t think it was MY job to make the game harder for myself.

I know I am too old to understand the fun of beating an easy game that holds your hand. I was the guy laughing at kids who brag about beating a game when they used the Game Genie. Is it really an experience when there is no challenge?

I wonder what seeing a movie with this guy is like. Did he walk out of The Godfather griping that it was all this B.S. about tragedy and the inescapable gravity of family and how come it was so easy for Michael Corleone to take over, huh? Back in my day, movie mobsters had to work to take over the family business…

It’s pointed out that Draven is completely missing the point, but really, how can you argue with someone who says something like this with complete sincerity?

Gamers used to have pride.

And that pride is increasingly tarnished by morons like you, DravenX23. Keep on rocking.

In a tragic piece of financial meltdown news, the CFO of Freddie Mac recently committed suicide.

To people who subscribe to a certain mindset, this is not a moment to stop and think for a moment about the man and his family.

No, to these people it’s a moment to indulge in bizarre anti-Obama conspiracy theories.

I believe he was murdered he had too much info and was probably going to tell all,I dont think it was suicide at all,it happened when the clintons was enpowered also.he had a family and his wife had no clue why he would do this sounds fishy too me and i heard yesterday he had guards at his house last month.it was MURDER!

Regardless of whether is was suicide or not, barney franks and chris dodd and john conyers, jesse jackson, diane feinstein, and nacy pelosi are responsible for this death and they should all be charged with murder

This sort of tragedy does seem to follow when democrats when scandals are concerned. This guy was under an awful lot of pressure lately, but O has his own brownshirt army to take care of things like this. I hope the police are doing the appropriate interviews in the neighborhood. No way this guy committed suicide. If you research the historical patterns of so-called “white-collar” suicides you will rarely if at all do they occur in the home with the spouse and /or children present. The fact that he was discovered in the basement of his own home in the overnight hours is radically different then the suicide profiles you see where the victim removes himself from the home and from family to “clense the shame” they cast. This guy had a 5 year old!!!
Remember this administration is essentially nothing more than Chicago thuggery. People are expendable and “appear and disappear” as needed. I am convinced this guy knew more than he should, uncovered something he should not have or got close the the core and people responsible. No black helicopters here , just look at the facts. I am certain we will never know the truth.

People this is just the beginning. I believe with all my heart this was not suicide. This man knew too much, had a conscience, or, perhaps was getting ready to bcome a whisltle-blower. I really believe this man began at FM with good intentions, but, something happened to him. We are foolish to this was suicide and The OBAMA CAMP didn’t have something to do with it. Let’s take our country back!!!!!!

Yes, there is an outbreak of swine flu and the United States announced Sunday that they are declaring a public health emergency. It’s a situation and a reaction. It would seem rather apolitical to inform the public about what measures will be taken and what precautions they should take themselves. I mean, what could you possibly read into this?

Oh, alright, let’s check the low-hanging fruit that comprises the the commenters on the FoxNews.com story about the announcement.

The movie “V” comes to mind. Perhaps the current administration started this epedimic to gain even more government control over our lives. I just don’t trust anything this group does or says; it seems all they care about is power to destroy our nation. This is the first time in my life where I am actually afraid of our president.

Is it just me, or is this “swine flu epidemic (in another country!)” a really convenient distraction from JN [Janet Napolitano, the Secretary of Homeland Security, who made today's announcement- RJ] having recently exposed herself as a left-wing Nazi out to target anyone with good, old-fashioned American values, and/or the status of Veteran? Which is why the question over the legality of “flags symbolizing sexual orientation” has become so important to the city of Neptune.

So if i hung up a confederate flag or SS or a Nazi flag, that would be ok as well? i think not. WHAT IF WE HANG UP A FLAG THAT HAS A RAINBOW & A CROSS GOING THROUGH IT? WOULD THAT BE OK AS WELL? this is an example of what I don’t understand about gays.

on one hand, gays will be the first ones to say “our sexual orientation is just a small part of who we are; we shouldn’t be judged by that. we’re everyday people who go to work, own homes, pay taxes, just like you…” or something to that effect.

but at the same time, gay people trumpet their sexual orientation every chance they get. “being gay” is not just sexual orientation to them- it seems as if it’s a way of life. everything they do revolves around “being gay.”

Pity the poor fan of sports video-games. Already duty-bound to spend $60 a year on the same game over and over and over again, in some perverse preview of their Purgatorial tedium, now it transpires that the very athletes whose likenesses, names and game statistics make their favorite games possible are suing the makers of those games for using their likenesses, names and game statistics with neither permission nor compensation.

This is, of course, an insult to the real victims. The fans:

I’ve always hated lawsuits about people being upset about being in a video game. They should be honored it’s not like it ruins their reputation and makes them evil or anything. Just a bunch of old money grubbers.

Suing happens to be one of the easiest ways of making money in the US. Trust me, they’re proud, but greed is a mofo.

hi, im a nfl player and earn millions upon millions of dollars from my contract and endorsments alone, now i dont think thats good enough and want to sue a computer game company for using my likeness which improved my fans experience when playing such games as nfl made by ea, Having millions of dollars and getting into places for free isnt just as good as it used to be

Ok – so I just read that apparently at some point in some iteration of the X-MEN – that EMMA FROST developed Diamond skin… Which wasn’t the case in the far superior Claremont days of the character – so technically they’re not to blame for inventing her DISCO BALL BULLSHIT – but god damn – it is cheesy looking and ridiculous looking. And at the very least is fucked up continuity. Which, of course, they don’t give a shit about.

OK, maybe it does.

There’s just no pleasing some people

There’s nothing quite like a feel-good, heart-warming story about children, puppies, or better yet children and puppies to bring a warm glow to your spirits. And this story from Washington about a lost toddler who survived a night outdoors thanks to his cuddly puppy keeping him warm is a real winner.

Internet, what say you?

It is amazing that a little dog can save a child without kidnapping it or terminating the parents like CPS needlessly does.

When Obama gets voted out of office, he can apply for Mickey’s job at Disney Land. It’s the happiest place on Earth and everyone will love him there.

And the representative suggested that they should choose simpler aliases, and the democrats are trying to manufacture one of their issues about this right? I believe the problem extends beyond the Asian community. Just look at how many Smiths, Jones, Washingtons, Rodriguezs, Lopezs, etc that we have and how difficult that is. Just google your own name and you’ll probably find that you may not be the only one with your name. So we are using middle names which helps, so do we add a fourth name to ID all.

When is someone going to pass a law that protects me??

The New Hampshire House recently passed a law banning discrimination on the basis of gender identity. Pretty straight-forward law, on the face, especially since all it allows for is people flining complaints with the state Human Righs Commission when they feel they have been discriminated against on the basis of their actual or perceived gender identity.

Of course, we wouldn’t even be bringing it up here unless there were people who were really freaked out by the idea of transgender people having rights, too:

There should be 3 types of bathrooms…Men’s room, Women’s room and Gender confused room. I mean what’s the difference between letting a man in the women’s room or letting a gay woman in?

Just remember, if this passes, if there’s a middle-aged man in a dress following your little girl into the ladies’ room to try to watch her use the potty, you can’t say anything, or that’s a Hate Crime.

If you voted for Democrats, this is what you get.

I don’t know whether to feel relieved or not that the “they’re all pedophiles” meme is moving on from gay men to transgender women.

Sexual predators use EVERY ADVANTAGE THEY CAN and I know it is not fair to my gay lesbian and transgendered friends and I feel badly but hey its the law I will live by it as they should understand the fear that us moms face as it is with bathrooms.

I can discriminate all I want and the New Hampshire legislature can not dictate what I say or who I hire. I do not recognize someones “gender change”. If you are born a man, i’m calling you a man and I don’t care what you say. We don’t need to treat these people like a special minority, they did the “transformations” themselves. There is something wrong with them. “Hey, I feel like i’m a dolphin. So i’m not a man anymore, i’m a dolphin. So you better have a dolphin bathroom or i’m going to sue for discrimination”

Yes, we saw that episode of South Park, too. Like most of their political episodes, it wasn’t funny.

I’m speachless. Seriously? They actually VOTED on this? TWICE? LOL! Transgender rights? Oh my goodness. What else weird can we vote on? May as well just allow gambling and prostitution. It’s all that’s left to finish the destruction of American society.

When is someone going to pass a law that protects me?? I’m an aging, white, Christian, male, who was born in America, pay my taxes, obey the law and own a home. Why am I ALWAYS getting shafted while everybody else rides my coat tails??? Where is MY legislation and protection???

Oh, when will the white, heterosexual white Christian males of this country be granted their freedom?

I am waiting for the first transgender dog bill to be proposed. What if my dog is discriminated against by anothe dog because my dog is confused with his identity? What happens then? What laws can another special interest group create?

I have two young daughters, to think that some sicko can put on a dress and use the girls room is a terible thought. How do you protect young girls from sicko’s who put on a dress and claim there a women just to get at young girls in a public restroom. This is crazy!

You are sick perverted dogs and no matter how hard you pray on your deathbeds the damage you have done to innocent children in your short tenure has damned you. I fell pity and contempt for you all.

So sad deviant behavior is being legislated as normal. What citizen group brought this forward? Who do they represent? Come on heterosexuals start telling your representatives and those deviant representatives what you want, e.g. protection for heterosexuals, family (man married to a women w/wo children. Vote the deviants and their staffs out of NH. Show up to be counted at these bill hearings and votes. Speak at the hearings. Write daily if necessary your representatives. Give financial support to groups organizing against this absurd “nondiscrimination” legislation which actually discriminates against heterosexuals. Or you are going to be living in Sodom and Gomorrah formerly called New Hampshire and the United States of America. Give up a days work before you workplace, neighborhood, town, state is unfit for regular folk to live here.

When will the citizens in this State stand up?
